COMMON QUESTIONS
Chongqing Travel FAQ
How many days do I need in Guizhou?
Minimum 3 days for Guiyang + Huangguoshu Waterfall + 1 minority village. 5–7 days is ideal to do the full minority village circuit and waterfall properly.
What is Guizhou most famous for?
Huangguoshu Waterfall, Miao and Dong villages, sour-spicy food and a less commercial regional feel.
Is Guizhou good for first-time visitors to China?
Better as a second trip, or as an addition to a Chengdu/Guilin route. English support is limited, infrastructure is more rural, and the appeal is depth rather than headline sights. Travelers who’ve already seen Beijing and Shanghai love it.
How do I get to Guiyang?
Direct flights from Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Hong Kong. High-speed rail from Guangzhou (4 hours), Chengdu (3 hours), Kunming (2 hours). Easier to reach than most travelers expect.
What's the difference between Miao and Dong villages?
Miao are mountain villages with wooden stilt houses cascading down hillsides — more dramatic to photograph (Xijiang Qianhu is the famous one). Dong villages have iconic wooden drum towers and “wind and rain” covered bridges (Zhaoxing is the famous one). Most travelers visit both.
When's the best time to visit Guizhou?
April–June and September–November — moderate temperatures, less rain. Huangguoshu Waterfall is most powerful in July–August (rainy season) but trails get slippery. Avoid winter — cold and damp.
Is Guizhou food spicy?
es, but differently from Sichuan — Guizhou food emphasizes sour-spicy flavors from fermentation. The signature dish is sour soup fish (suāntāng yú), often soured with red tomato or fermented rice. Less mouth-numbing than Sichuan, more tangy.
Can I visit Guizhou minority villages independently?
Possible but inefficient. Public transport between villages is slow and infrequent, signage is in Chinese only, and the families running the best homestays don’t speak English. A guide and driver makes a 7-day independent trip into a 4-day curated one..
Is Huangguoshu Waterfall really worth visiting?
I am a so called subtitle.Yes . It’s the largest waterfall in Asia, and you can walk behind the falling water through a cave. Best experienced over a half-day, paired with Doupotang upper falls and the surrounding karst pools. Combine with a Miao village day for a full Guizhou trip.
