• Is Chongqing worth visiting?

  Yes, and it is nothing like the China you are imagining. The mountain terrain, two rivers, volcanic food scene, and a nightlife that keeps going until 4am make it feel completely different from Beijing or Shanghai. It is also a great base for day trips to the Dazu Rock Carvings and Wulong Karst National Park.

• How many days do you need in Chongqing?

  3 to 4 days minimum. That gives you time to hit the main spots like Hongya Cave and Ciqikou, do a night tour along the river, eat your way through the hotpot scene, and squeeze in a day trip to Dazu or Wulong. If you are here for business, study, or medical services, plan for a full week.

• What is the best time to visit Chongqing?

  Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the sweet spot. Summers are punishing, regularly above 35 to 40 C with thick humidity. Winters are mild but foggy. If you want the best weather and fewer crowds, aim for April or October.

• How spicy is Chongqing food?

  Very. Chongqing cuisine is built on chili peppers and Sichuan peppercorn, which creates a numbing-spicy sensation called mala. But you have options. Most hotpot restaurants offer a split pot with a non-spicy side, and you can always ask for wei la (mild) or bu yao la (no spice).

• Do people speak English in Chongqing?

  Not much, outside of international hotels and a few tourist spots. The local Chongqing dialect is also quite different from standard Mandarin, so even your Mandarin phrasebook might not help. Keep a translation app ready, or contact us for multilingual support during your visit.

• What is Chongqing famous for?

  Hotpot, the hillside skyline, the Yangtze River, and its 8D city layout where streets, bridges, and buildings stack on top of each other in ways that defy logic. It is also the gateway to the Three Gorges and home to the UNESCO-listed Dazu Rock Carvings. Oh, and it has over 14,000 bridges.

• Can I take a Three Gorges cruise from Chongqing?

  Yes. Chongqing is the main departure point. Most cruises run from Chongqing to Yichang over 3 to 4 days, passing through Qutang Gorge, Wu Gorge, and Xiling Gorge. Both luxury and budget ships are available. We can help you compare options and book the right one.

• Where is the train that goes through a building in Chongqing?

  Liziba Station on Metro Line 2. The monorail passes through the 6th to 8th floors of a 19-story residential building. You can ride through it for the price of a regular metro ticket (starting at 2 RMB), or watch from the street below. It is in Yuzhong district, easy to reach from Jiefangbei.
